Spam Emails - Emails that report your account has been compromised

Recently, there has been an influx of emails which begins with (or something similar)

“Hello!

I’m a hacker who cracked your email and device a few months ago.

You entered a password on one of the sites you visited, and I intercepted it

Of course you can will change it, or already changed it.

But it doesn’t matter, my malware updated it every time…”

If you do receive one of these emails please ignore them and delete them. We’ve seen reports from a variety of email systems around the world (not just Suffolk Online) which say they have seen the same emails being sent to users and all the evidence is that these are junk/phishing emails.

We also recommend that the anti-virus software you have on your computer is fully up to date and set to scan regularly. If you don’t have anti-virus software on your computer then we recommend obtaining some (free or paid) as soon as possible. If your particular email contains a password that is similar to one you have used for your Suffolk Online email account or other online shopping systems then we believe what may have happened here is that hackers may have obtained an old password list from an online shop or resource that you may have used and then added this to these emails to make these emails look more genuine. Again, from what we can see, no Suffolk Online email accounts have been compromised and our advice is to delete this email and, if you have had this password on an online shop or website, to change this password on those particular websites.

Please DO NOT follow the advice in the emails.

Unfortunately there is not much we can do to prevent these emails coming through so the onus is on all of us to ensure these are deleted and ignored.
