Setting up Suffolk Online Webspace

Connecting to Webspace

If you wish to have free webspace you will need to call the Suffolk Online Helpdesk and have this setup for you.

You will first need to download a FTP Program from the Internet. FTP Allows you to transfer your website from your computer to our servers. You can visit http://filezilla-project.org and download FileZilla Client.

The instructions below will be for setting up your website using FileZilla.

1. Firstly you will need to create a site in your FTP Program, Otherwise each time you load this you will need to re-enter all the information again. To do this you will need to click File along the top and then Site Manage.



You will then be presented with a screen like the one below, select New Site



Select Normal from the Logon Type box over on the right hand side. You can then fill out the other fields on the form. Like the one below.


 

Host: Enter something to refererance your site. e.g My Site or My Homepage
Port: 22
User: Your username that you have been supplied with
Password: Your password that you have been supplied with.
Comments: Put any comments in the box you wish to link with this account.

You can then either click ok and select it from the site manager box which is in the main program or click Connect which will connect you to our FTP Server straight away. Once this has been done at the top you will see it will say its been successful.

Below shows you how the spilt screen you will see once you have connected. You need to double click on the Web folder and then drag from left to right into the web folder. Once the copying has been completed you should be able to go to your website and see it live.
